Tick Tick Tock

Time runs fast...
This week I have been building a crate to ship out the Dayner. It´s no wonder why I did not become a carpenter... I can´t believe my father built his own house at the age of 27!

Well, anyway, last friday I went to check out a new place for my studio. It was perfect! Much cheaper, built like a bunker with steel door and quite big for the cost. I think I´ll take it!

This was the last I saw of the console... Godspeed!

Now it´s time to focus on the demo again. Next up; BASS! I will split the signal and use one clean line straight into my Digi002R, and let the other one run through the POD. At least that is the plan right now...

I will upload some soundclips from the drumrecording this weekend.

Stay tuned!

Hammer Time!

It was a cold and snowy night in the village of Dals Långed. Everything was calm... Then, all of a sudden, there was a loud bang, and another, and another..... Yes, finally! - Repulse has officially started to record their third demo, said the villagers.

I set up the mics like this:

Kick - AKG D12
Snare - Shure SM57
Toms - Shure SM57
HiHat - Röde NT-3
OH L - Röde NT-2
OH R - Röde NT-3

For the kick and snare I also used RedShot Triggers through my TechnoBeat Triginterface, then use Redrum in Reason with some nice samples. Probably from Drumkit From Hell.

All microphones went through my Focusrite Octopre and then via ADAT Light pipe into my Digidesign Digi 002R. I used some slight compression in the Octopre just to defeat peaks. I am now using the Mac mini 1,42 GHz to record and it runs great!

To the left: the overheads...
Below: the baldhead!

The recording went very smooth, Cato nailed the three songs in approx. 3,5 hrs, including level check! That´s fast! Next thing to do now is recording the bass. I´m hoping to get started this weekend.

Close to D-day

Tomorrrow will be D-day (drumday). Cato and I will be recording in my current studio - RedRoom Studio i Dals Långed, Sweden. Since I will be moving my studio in March (don´t really know where to yet...) we have to finish at least the drums before I have to start tearing it all down.

BTW, yesterday I sold my console, the D&R Dayner is leaving me for a new home in Luleå. I will mix the demo internally in ProTools this time so I had to let go of my companion... BYE BYE!

I´m thinking of maybe buying a digital console - one I can also use live as FOH-mixer. One option right now is a used Tascam DM 24, which can also be used as a controlsurface for ProTools.

Well, I´m really excited about tomorrow, anyway.

C YA!

Basic tracks

Welcome to this blog!
Last thursday we finished the last song for our coming demo with the working title - Universal Human. We also finished the clicktracks which we will be using for drum tracking this wednesday. I (Airbag) recorded some basic guitar tracks and Henrik (leadvox) made some real effort in doing some guide vocals (not!) It was hilarious!
The tracks we will include are:
"Hollow Soul", "Universal Human" and "Former Member Of A Society".
These are all working names and can change along the way...
This wednesday (feb 15th), Cato will be tracking drums. I will add pictures and comments on how I miced the drums and what preamps, triggers and what not was used.
Be sure to check in then!
